Course aim

To consolidate and extend students’ body of knowledge in early childhood education theory, and develop understanding of the professional educator’s role as a leader and advocate.

Course content

Early childhood leadership and advocacy theory and development with site/agency/service-based fieldwork; approaches and decision-making by educators within early childhood settings; implementation, evaluation and critical reflection; working as a team member and mentoring; the roles of early childhood advocates and educational leaders, leadership styles, roles and responsibilities; administration and management arrangements for children’s services; working with families; managing change; legal and ethical responsibilities and continuing professional development.
