Course aim

To enable students to develop the knowledge and skills required to supervise and manage individuals and groups in the workplace and to explore some of the key factors that influence people’s performance and behaviour in organisations in the international hospitality sector from a perspective that draws upon leadership, organisational behaviour and HR literature.

Course content

A core component of this course is to enable students to better understand and experience the need for supervisors and managers to be flexible and adaptable in their management style according to the needs of staff, the situation at hand the needs of the manager. No one management style is always appropriate when working with people. A hospitality manager’s day is full of changing approaches depending on the requirements of the people – situation mix. This concept will be explored in a great amount of detail. Students will develop a deep understanding of dominant behavioural preferences when working with people and will learn how to extend the range of behaviours adapted with people according to their needs and the needs presented by various organisational environments.
