This course aims to provide student with an introduction to thermal processing and provide a foundation for areas such as traditional iron-based metallurgy.
Cast structures and properties; Modern steel making practices; Solidification modelling; Foundry practice and casting design; Casting defects, identification, causes and prevention; Phase transformations, TTT/CCT diagrams; Heat treatment processes: Annealing, Non equilibrium processes; Alloys steels and tool steel design; Cast irons; Non ferrous-alloys.
