To show students how the analytical methods they have learned can help them understand the real world through demonstrating the application of theory and policy analysis tools to topics of current social and national interest, in the area of international and developing economies.
This course will expose students to in-depth, real-world applications of the market analysis techniques they have learned in prior courses. Specific content covered will include four applied topics such as the determination of international trade and FDI flows; trade agreements and economic integration; financial crises; and exchange rate policies in open and developing economies. Within each topic, relevant theoretical concepts and models will first be reviewed and students will be shown how to customise them to examine questions specific to that topic. Students will then engage with specific examples of policy dilemmas through studying case studies, hypothetical scenarios, and ex-ante/ex-post analyses.
