Course aim

To enable students to have an integrated understanding of fundamental accounting systems and the accounting cycle as well as an advanced understanding of the corporate, institutional and ethical environments that corporate accounting operates within.

Course content

Confirmation and expansion of the knowledge pertaining to the complete accounting cycle with emphasis on the design and implementation of double entry accounting systems; implementation of the financial accounting process and recognition and use of the procedures required for both manual and computer-based accounting systems; exposure to the theoretical and conceptual issues surrounding the practice of financial accounting; an introduction to the financial reporting environment including exposure to various accounting standards used in financial accounting; an investigation of the practical, theoretical and ethical issues underlying the application of accounting standards with particular reference to depreciation and disposal of non-current assets, inventories, accounts receivable, cash controls and liabilities as well as preparation of financial statements including balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flows.
