To critically analyse constructions of human rights and their application to social work and community development.
Students will develop an advanced understanding of International and Australian human rights laws and treaties including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Australian human rights legislation, organisations, policies and practices and community development theories and frameworks. Students will critically analyse philosophies, concepts and theories of human rights, culture, gender and human rights, community development, human rights and social justice, a human rights framework for ethical social work practice with disadvantaged communities including women, children, refugees, migrants, vulnerable older people, people with mental or physical illness or disability and Indigenous Australians.
