Introduction to the fundamentals of rock music to explore the characteristics of Progressive Rock music from 'Sergeant Pepper' to the present day.
Students will have the opportunity to follow the development of Progressive Rock from The Beatles' 'Sergeant Pepper' album to contemporary bands such as 'Spok’s Beard' and 'Dream Theatre'. This includes the ‘first wave’ of British super groups such as 'Yes', 'Genesis', 'Pink Floyd' and 'Emerson, Lake and Palmer'. Students will gain insight into the musical and dramatic aspects of this genre, and the impact of advances in recording and musical instrument technology.
