To gain understanding of a range of world music traditions, musical forms and meaning of music in different cultural contexts.
Study and analysis of music in world cultures regarding auditory signs and structure, social context and performance characteristics, and meaning and value of music assigned by performers and listeners. The course examines major music cultures from all continents, their interaction and cross-fertilization, including the study of Australian world musics and contexts.
