Course aim

To provide students with a structured program on the methodology of carrying out a research/development/design project and to undertake and manage an industry focussed project in which they apply their knowledge of various aspects of mechanical and manufacturing engineering into a particular problem.

Course content

Research Lectures: Design, planning and scheduling of the research program; literature searching; seminar presentation techniques; thesis writing; multi-attribute decision analysis.
Project: Students will carry out projects in the area of chosen specialisation. The work will be guided by an individual academic supervisor. The student will have regular review meetings with their supervisor, presenting seminars and written reports.
It is expected that satisfactory achievement of the course objectives will require at least 300 hours of concentrated student effort.

Students will be undertaking a double degree program. GPA of at least 5.0 from their Engineering component of their program.
