Course aim

This course explores the theories of learning, social marketing and behaviour change allowing students to integrate the evidence for practice in communication about nutrition and food science.

Course content

Cultural, social, political, economic and environmental influences of food intake and the resultant effect on nutrition and the health status of all Australians and on the environment. Research skills in identifying, appraising, discussing, summarising the body of evidence. Common hierarchies for research evidence in quantitative and qualitative research. Translating nutrition and food science information for the public. Theories of social marketing, learning behaviour and change. Communicating nutrition and food science via verbal, digital and written means to different audiences in the community. Core knowledge of foods consumed by all Australians highlighting diverse cultural groups.
