The aim of this course is to develop a practical understanding of foundational concepts and theories of education, adult learning models, learning and teaching styles and assessment and evaluation of education within the health environment.
Education as a concept: purpose, theories of learning, education frameworks. Adult learning: models of adult learning, generational learning, learning styles, learning taxonomies, learning approaches, learning environments and barriers to learning. Practicalities of teaching adults in the health practice environment: teaching styles, instructional techniques: instructional skills, teaching and delivery strategies, planning and preparation, learning environment and professional responsibilities. Assessing adult learning in the health practice environment: regulatory framework, assessment types, performance assessment; individual assessment, team assessment, self assessment, peer assessment, recognising and responding to non-achievement, evaluation of teaching episode and educator.
