Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of managing pharmacy services and businesses.

Course content

The means by which pharmacy services are funded (hospital and community), including the impact of funding models affect pharmacy practice, and the effects of professional services on business. Human resources issues, including contracts of employment, accountability, responsibilities and rights in workplaces, including small businesses, management and leadership skills, working in teams. Occupational health and safety considerations. Financial basics for small businesses and health services: pricing, profit and loss, key indicators, supplier relationships, accounting responsibilities, financial planning. Marketing and communication strategies for small businesses with a focus on understanding customer behaviour, the significance of location, and related business strategies.
