Civil Engineering Techniques

Course aim

To provide students with an introduction to the civil engineering profession and associated specialisations. Students will apply the methods, tools and techniques required as a civil engineer with a focus on sustainability and building design.

Course content

Students will apply the methods, tools and techniques required as a civil engineer including:

• Relevance of standards and codes of practice, green building design and sustainable material selection
• Building design and construction including limit states, loads and load paths; introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM) and structural analysis software
• Civil Engineering technical drawing skills using AutoCAD and Revit
