To further prepare students for their roles as engineering practitioners. The course will develop their understanding of professional engineering practice and management in relation to employers, employees, clients, professionals from other disciplines and society in general. Activities will connect students with practising engineers through specialist lectures, exercises to develop generic skills, networking, and participation in professional engineering activities.
Aspects of professional engineering practice including communication skills, meeting procedures, chairmanship, professional ethics, risk management roles of managers in engineering enterprises, financial reports, preparation for work placement in industry.
Project management including project management - project definition, analysis, planning, decision-making, programming and scheduling.
Lectures by engineering practitioners and managers on specialist topics selected from company structure and organisation, resource management, leadership, industrial relations, workplace health and safery, liability, IP and commercialisation, standards, documentation, quality assurance, roles of professional associations.
Attendance at off-campus meetings of professional associations or technical societies; site visits.
