Course aim

To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge on different methods of actuation and automation in engineering and provide practical experience in the application of this knowledge in developing innovative and sound solutions for problems in engineering discipline.
The course is designed to expand Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering Students’ knowledge base and its depth in the fundamental and ever-present engineering area of producing and controlling motion. This generalised problem is as old as humanity, and, while undergoing an explosive progress in the last decades, is still reinventing itself continuously.

Course content

The sequence of lectures will cover the following:

  • Introduction to industrial actuation and automation;
  • Hydraulic drives and circuits;
  • Pneumatic drives and circuits;
  • Electrical drives;
  • Piezo-electric drives;
  • Servo-actuators and automation
