Course aim

To increase understanding about the critical nature of brain development in children in the 0-3 age group.

Course content

How brains develop during the 0-3 age range; the role of the environment in gene expression, development of key brain structures, neural connections and myelination, growth spurts in the brain; experience dependent plasticity and the effects on brain development of non-optimal environments; relationships between early brain development and growth and behaviour; the importance of early brain development for future health, (physical and emotional) behaviour and capacity for learning.
