This course is one element of a program which aims to teach a cognitive approach to its component subjects as well as a practical one. The course thus includes tuition in analytical and deductive skills, delivered within a practical context.
The aim of the course is to provide sufficient knowledge of the principles of electronic design to allow a technical officer with a non-electronic background to competently manage a multidisciplinary team that includes electronics specialists.
Characteristics of analog & digital signals; principles of analog signal processing; principles of digital signal flows; principles of digital signal processing; introduction to electronic CAD; simulation of electronic circuits & functions; outline design of test systems; evaluation of electronic systems; electronic system failure modes and mitigation; electronic circuitry failure modes and mitigation; specification and documentation of electronic designs; electronic design transfer for production
Computer practicals/assignments: study of simulated analog and digital signal characteristics; implementation of simple electronic CAD processes; implementation of simple simulation processes; document production and control exercises.
