Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the issues and basic principles of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) within the context of the defence materiel life cycle. The course provides managers or participants involved in management or development and acquisition of systems with the understanding of ILS required to effectively specify and manage such development or acquisition.

Course content

Role of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) in the systems acquisition life cycle. Goals, key elements and ILS issues in the different phases of the acquisition life cycle. Logistics Measures: reliability, fault tree analysis, maintainability, supply support factors, availability, transportation, test and support equipment, facilities and organisational factors. Logistics Support Analysis: goals and tasks, supportability factors and risks, life cycle costs, maintenance task analysis, level of repair analysis. Logistics in the Systems Design phase. Logistics Engineering Management – Defence perspective
