To introduce students to the basic concepts of chemistry as they relate to engineering and to provide them with a wide experience in practical work related to the theory course.
Practical and theoretical studies of: physical properties and the kinetic molecular theory; atoms and chemical change; structure and bonding; acids, bases and salts; redox; the mole; heat of reactions; reaction rates; metals, non-metals and their compounds. Periodic Table. Introduction to some of the engineering aspects of environmental and organic chemistry.
