Course aim

To provide students with the theoretical foundations, knowledge, and skills in subject cataloguing, classification, and to be able to describe and organise resources in formats using international standards to enable information discovery.

Course content

Theories, principles, and practices of bibliographic organisation, subject analysis, and classification; the application of major classification schemes (DDC, LC classification, UDC); the theoretical foundations, structure and application of international cataloguing schemes (LCSH); research in the field of linked library data, ontologies, study of principles for organising various types of documents; representation and organisation of information resources including organisational structures such as indexes, bibliographies, and catalogues; role of biblographic organisation systems in inventory control systems; cataloguing workflows and management; practical application of metadata and online cataloguing.
