Course aim

This course provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the causes and effects of climate change and explores their impacts on organisational management and leadership, business strategy, and business conduct. The course examines current climate science and climate economics, and explores governmental, intergovernmental and corporate responses to one of the most significant challenges of modern times.

Students completing the course develop a body of knowledge that:

  • Contributes to a comprehensive and integrated application of climate change knowledge to recent developments in the field of senior organisational management and leadership in international business environments.
  • Provides a pathway for further learning.

Course content

Topics covered in this course include:

  • The effects of climate change and their implications for corporate management.
  • Climate science, focusing on physical and social impacts.
  • The economics of climate change.
  • Government responses to climate change at national and international levels.
  • Implications of climate change for major industry sectors such as energy, resources, agribusiness, manufacturing and financial services.
  • How managers might respond to climate change at both a strategic and operational level.
