This course aims to develop student’s cross-cultural managerial competency. It explores cultural/management theories and practices and analyses how managerial practices differ from one culture to another. Throughout the course culture is treated as a major determinant of managerial practice and effectiveness in multicultural and cross-cultural environments. The course includes a special focus on comparative studies of western and eastern management approaches.
Identifying cultural differences; Evaluating cultural differences; Different interpretations/conceptualisations of culture; Application of cultural knowledge/differences to managerial behaviour/activities; Culturalisation and globalisation: issues and debates; Changing nature of global business environment; Issues and controversies in developing cross-cultural competence; Ethical dilemmas across cultures; and Comparison of eastern and western management approaches.
