Law, Society and Justice

Course aim

1. This course introduces students to Western conceptions of justice as an aspect of modern democratic theory, adopting a critical perspective across a range of contemporary issues

Course content

1. The historical basis for the Australian legal system and system of government.
2. The Rule of Law.
3. The concepts of “justice” and “access to justice”.
4. The relevance of moral and social values and special interest groups in the evolution of Australia’s legal  system.
5. Modern human rights theory.
6. Dispute resolution.
