Course aim

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of the constitutional arrangements effected by the Commonwealth Constitution including the structure and institutions of the Constitution, the division of power between Commonwealth and States, and relations between the different levels of government.

Course content

  • Principles of Interpretation of the Commonwealth Constitution
  • Nature and extent of selected heads of Commonwealth Legislative Power
  • Distribution of financial powers between Commonwealth and States
  • Aspects of Commonwealth executive and judicial power
  • Express and implied federal limits on powers in the Constitution
