Course aim

To provide participants with current knowledge of wound management principles and practices to underpin competent evidence based practice in the assessment, management and evaluation of wounds and education of clients.

Course content

Anatomy and physiology of wound healing; classification of wounds and appropriate wound care products; client and wound assessment; factors that enhance and delay healing (physical, emotional, social, cultural, clinical and political); clinical, political and social factors affecting wound management; evidence based practice for implementation of strategies to aid healing; education of other health care professionals, client and family to support self-management of wounds; finding and using technology to access support management strategies; documentation of wound management strategies; choosing the appropriate dressing for wounds.
