To introduce students to the key concepts in media and journalism in relation to the social, cultural and technological contexts in which the media operate.
Students will become familiar with a range of concepts and topics related to the operation of the media in Australia and globally. These will include consideration of the business of journalism, globalisation, technological change in newsrooms, media ownership and regulation. Other topics will include PR and news, social and political influences on journalism, contemporary models of journalism practice and war reporting.
