Course aim

To further provide students with Radiation Therapy specific theory and knowledge of common treatment sites.

Course content

Treatment for brain malignancies including stereotactic radiation therapy and stereotactic radiation surgery; adjuvant treatment: complementary medicine and chemotherapy principles; superficial x-ray planning (landmarks, measurements and calculations for a superficial x-ray treatment); superficial x-ray and electron cut-outs; skin cancer management; prevention and care of radiation injury; anatomical image matching for treatment verification; rationale and technique for radiation therapy treatment to brain, skin, lung, oesophagus and gastro-intestinal tract malignancies; use, risk and contra-indications of contrast media; radiobiological effect of radiation on tumour cells and normal tissue; treatment of non-malignant conditions, patients with disabilities including those who are hearing and sight impaired, or unconscious; teamwork; scope of practice. National protocols published on safety and quality in health care; MRPBA professional capabilities.
