To further provide students with Radiation Therapy specific theory and knowledge of rationale and treatment of common treatment sites.
Principles of Simulation (conventional and virtual); fluoroscopy and verification; radiation therapy equipment and linear accelerator features: asymmetric and multi-leaf collimation, electronic portal imaging methods including port films, computed radiography, EPI, OBI and cone beam CT; imaging for planning in multiple planes; fundamentals of CT image viewing; patient treatment record documentation; measurements from simulator films; monitor unit calculation checks; mould room procedures and immobilisation aids; cast making procedure and patient instruction/ explanation; strategies applicable to examining patients from varying cultural groups including indigenous patients; prevention of needle stick injury and safe practice technique in tattooing patients; grief management and application in the wider context; (fellow workers, families and carers); rationale and technique for radiation therapy treatment to the pelvis (prostate, seminoma, rectum and bladder malignancies) and related anatomy; physiology and pathology including grade, stage and mode of spread, radiolobiological effects on normal and malignant tissue; cultural and professional issues.
