Course aim

To provide students with a sound understanding of the underlying principles behind the formulation of solid dosage forms, including controlled-release forms and of the processes and controls exercised in the manufacture of solid dosage forms, their fate once administered, and controls over their manufacture and quality; dermatological products and percutaneous absorption; and drug and product stability and the importance of shelf-life and storage.

Course content

Solid dosage forms, properties of solid drugs and excipients, micromeritics, manufacture and quality control; tablets, capsules, suppositories and pessaries; Principles of controlled-release dosage forms; Scale-up from pilot and small-scale manufacturing; Packaging and labelling of dosage forms.
