Course aim

To provide a comprehensive understanding of the commercialisation of pharmaceutical products and the link between commercialisation strategies and industry/company success.

Course content

Intellectual property and patenting in the pharmaceutical industry; Ownership of knowledge, ownership of information, IP protection; How companies are formed; How companies are funded; Private and public funding of the pharmaceutical industry; Spin-off and start-up companies; Relationships between Big Pharma, Start-ups and CROs; Mergers and de-mergers; The costs of conducting pharmaceutical research; Plotting the value of a pharmaceutical company in relation to the success and failure during drug development; Ethical behaviour in pharmaceutical commercialisation; Advertisement and promotion within the pharmaceutical industry; Role of pharmacoeconomics in strategic drug development; The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme; Government support programs for the pharmaceutical industry; The future of the industry.
