Public Relations Issues and Crisis Management

Course aim

To build on introductory courses in public relations by examining, in depth, the 'issues and crisis management' approach to public relations practice.

Course content

Students will  examine media management strategies and the changing context of social media for public relations issues management, including the role of lobby groups and activists. Students will plan an issues management program, taking into account stakeholder management, issues and risk management. They will extend this knowledge into the field of crisis communication, developing an understanding of, and skills in, the role of crisis communication theory; legal and ethical perspectives; crisis types, life cycles and trends; crises causes and typologies; factors influencing crises outcomes; crisis management and response strategies; crisis planning, recovery and post-crisis rebuilding.
