To develop students’ understanding of Islam and the influence of Islamic discourses on contemporary world politics.
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of Islam and its influence on the socio-cultural and political situations of Muslims in a contemporary context. Through this knowledge, students will have a better grasp of the diversity of Muslims societies and nations, particularly cultural and regional variations in Islamic traditions and practices; and how culture and gender ideology affect Muslim women’s participation in public life. This will enable them to critically discuss the implications and challenges of major current developments in Islam and Muslim societies affecting national and international politics.
