To introduce students to the key debates about identities and power in relation to global societies.
Students will develop their understanding of societies in global contexts by examining ideas of borders and cultural identity, including transnational and fragmented identities and citizenship. They will be introduced to the key concepts of class, race and gender and will explore the debates about globalisation and culture, identities and power with attention given to issues of human rights, activism the role of democracy in contemporary international society.
