Students will challenge and extend their understandings of the legislative, political, social, economic and ethical frameworks that influence the care of older people.
Legal and ethical aspects which impact on the care of older people from the perspective of older people, their families and staff: impact of documentation, duty of care, accountability and delegation, Advanced Directives, Occupational Health and Safety, Aged Care Act, Privacy Act .Ethical aspects – quality of life/rights of older people; elder abuse; social inclusion; social justice; consumer and community participation.; family decision making and care provision. Social aspects – Enabling older people to make decisions; assisting older people and their families to access information to access resources, support and services. Health and aged care policies that impact on service provision for older people and implications for practice.
