The aim of this course is to provide students with an active introduction to the management of data and information resources in contemporary organisations. Student will investigate systems, resources and processes required for effective and efficient information management including the management of end users and end user developers together with the management of information across different countries and cultures.
The nature and use of data management systems for administrators and end-users. Principles of good data and information management. Management issues related to end user development of information management systems. Use of data and information from organisational systems for the individual or department use. Processes and policies of information management in contemporary organisations. Principle and techniques of good database design. Management problems experienced due to poor database design. Management issues arising from Legacy systems and systems migration. Impact of culture and globalization on information management.
