Development and Design Studio

Course aim

The course aims to provide students with practical experience of the property development process in order to broaden their appreciation of the need for town planning regulation and to develop their understanding of the developer’s perspectives on the planning and development interface. The course is designed as a multidisciplinary practical project comprising several stages, incorporating inputs from a range of property related professions which seeks to integrate a number of aspects of courses taught in the same year and bring to life the development process, its synergies and conflicts.

Course content

This as a practical studio based course which involves students in appraising and solving a land development problem. The syllabus draws on materials presented in complementary courses, namely, Urban & Regional Development (ARCH 2055), Urban Design Workshop (ARCH2014), Planning Policy (ARCH 2042) and Planning Information Management ARCH2041). Short lectures will synthesise this previously delivered content in the context of the project.
