Course aim

To introduce students to the mathematical theory underlying the fundamental concepts and practice of statistics, and to apply this theory especially in the areas of Actuarial Science and Finance, and to prepare themselves for mathematical statistics courses, including those required for actuarial or financial analyst accreditation.

Course content

The course covers probability, probability distributions and densities, mathematical expectation, special probability distributions and densities, functions of random variables and sampling distribution, introduction to hypothesis testing and point estimation.
