Course aim

To develop students’ knowledge and skills to assist infants, children and adolescents experiencing health problems to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Course content

Principles of person- and family-centred care; National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards; the role of the registered nurse caring for infants, children and adolescents; NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice, codes of conduct and ethics; communication; advocacy; child developmental theories; evidenced-based practice; health assessment and management of common health problems affecting infants, children and adolescents; legal and ethical responsibilities; child safety and mandatory reporting; health promotion, care planning and implementation; nutrition and physical activity; immunisation; pathophysiology; pharmacology; safe administration of medicines; mental health; disability; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
