Course aim

The aim of this course is to develop students' knowledge and skills to assist infants, children and young people experiencing complex health problems achieve optimal health outcomes.

Course content

Principles of family-centred care; role of nurses caring for infants, children and young people; communication; child developmental theories; health assessment; quality and safety; immunisation; obesity; lifestyle education; nutrition and physical activity; pathophysiology; pharmacology; quality use of medicines; nursing management of common conditions of infants, children and young people; evidence-based practice; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health; legal and ethical requirements of caring for infants, children and young people; child safe environment (mandatory reporting); mental health; health promotion.
