Course aim

To introduce students to the issues involved when dealing with diverse cultures within the Australian health system in relation to the cultural perspectives on those groups who have been historically marginalised in Australian society, namely Aboriginal people, migrants and refugees.

Course content

Students will be introduced to culture and principles of cultural theory, cultural diversity in Australia, cultural implications for the role of the health professional Cultural Competency Standards in the Australian health system, histories and health profile, cross cultural communication.
