Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide the students with a beginning understanding of the determinants of health from a socio-ecological perspective, national health needs and priorities and the nature of the Australian health care system within the wider international context. This course has a specific emphasis on the current and future implications for the role of the nurse, health professionals and those concerned with population health.

Course content

Health perspectives: determinants of health: introduction to epidemiology and public health: introduction to concepts of disease: notifiable diseases: screening procedures: health care in rural and remote areas: National Health Priorities: co-morbidity/living with chronic health problems: health care systems, models of service delivery: mental health services: role of Government: Primary Health Care.
