To introduce students to fundamental surveying theory and techniques, methods for capturing and recording data, computations and processing of data, and generation of related outputs and deliverables.
Introduction to the surveying profession, surveying instrumentation and measurement and recording techniques. Review of trigonometry and solutions of plane triangles. Processing of field data and computation of height, coordinate, area, and volume information. 2D linear transformations. Topographic field surveys and terrain representation including introduction to electronic data capture, survey data processing and plan drafting. Elementary CAD principles used in electronic survey data presentation. Overview of differential GNSS systems and applications.
