To undertake the fifth stage of doctoral research through development of the final drafts of the portfolio or dissertation.
Students are expected to draft their entire portfolio or dissertation. To achieve the objectives of the research stage of the DBA program candidates can choose to produce a portfolio of papers or a dissertation for examination.
Portfolio of Papers
The portfolio of papers will include the following:
Paper 1: This paper will comprise an analysis of broad concepts and literature review which give context to the research topic and question. It is expected to be in the range of seven thousand (7,000) – ten thousand (10,000) words.
Paper 2: This paper extends the work undertaken in Paper 1 and presents information on the “fieldwork” research process undertaken to collect data, the subsequent analysis of this data and a discussion of the results. It is expected to be in the range of twelve thousand (12,000) – fifteen thousand (15,000) words
Paper 3: This paper extends the work undertaken in Papers 1 and 2 by engaging in an analysis and discussion of the practical knowledge and management action implications of the research and its findings. It is expected to be in the range of five thousand (5,000) – six thousand (6,000) words.
Paper 4: This paper provides an integration paper of the three previous papers and demonstrates how they relate to one another. It is expected to be in the range of three thousand (3,000) – four thousand (4,000) words.
Dissertation
If a dissertation is chosen as an alternative to a portfolio of papers it would be expected to be up to thirty thousand (30,000) words in length. An example format for such a dissertation is:
Chapter 1: Introduction and Rationale
Chapter 2: Literature Review
Chapter 3: Research Design and Methodology
Chapter 4: Findings and Analysis
Chapter 5: Conclusions and Recommendations
