Children's Literature: Writing for Young People

Course aim

To foster writing skills and critical analysis of prose intended for children and young adults, within the context of contemporary Australian publishing.

Course content

Exploration of contemporary fiction and non-fiction for young people; writing praxis: workshopping drafts, criticism of drafts, developing a manuscript to publishable standard; development of practical skills in prose writing for the various audiences within the children’s and young adult age groups; investigation of aspects of this Australian publishing sector which affect the creation, publication and reception of writing for young people.

Three 4.5 unit courses (at least one at Level 2) from EITHER the Children's Literature OR the Writing and Creative Communication Major/ Sub-major/Minor OR a mixture of both.
