To examine the evolution of visual culture within the context of 20th century industrial modernism incorporating visual communication, cinema and the spectacle of consumer culture.
Emergence of abstraction, cubism and associated genres, changing concepts in the representations of reality, the influence of psychoanalysis, relativity theory, the singularity problem, consumerism and the interrelationships of art to life. The impact of world wars, revolution, fascism, international socialism and the influence of significant individuals; the role and influence of photography in the dual arenas of visual art and visual culture, taking into account the evolution of cinematic experience and the emergence of television.
