To develop an understanding of core concepts in language and culture, and their relationship and implications for TESOL pedagogy in diverse contexts.
Constructs of language and culture including: human interaction; inter-cultural activity; language as a cultural way of understanding the world; the place of language in cultural power structures and relationships; globalisation and English as an international language (EIL); multilingualism and multiculturalism; contexts of language (cultural, situational, textual); discourse communities; systems of cultural-linguistic meaning making; form and function in language use; spoken and written discourse analyses; learner discourse.
