The aim of this course is to investigate the nature, demands and educational outcomes associated with games, and to explore issues associated with games teaching and learning.
Game foundations including key structural characteristics and categories of games; elements of effective play in various game categories; comparisons of game demands in various categories of games including tactical principles, technical and game sense; games as educational experiences to promote personal and social growth, thinking skills, collaboration, self confidence and competence; motivational factors influencing participation in games including promoting factors and barriers; contemporary approaches to teaching and learning games developed from situational learning and constructivist theoretical perspectives that are applied through models including play practice, teaching games for understanding, sport education, games concepts; learning to play games successfully through game design and teaching strategies.
