To introduce students to different perspectives of scientific, technical and professional communication, with a view to preparing students for professional life in the sciences, in order that they will develop an understanding of organisational structure and culture and their effect on communication, negotiation and conflict.
Students will be introduced to technical, professional and tertiary communication media such as user manuals, oral presentations and different types of formal reports. Students will develop skills in communicating with qualitative and quantitative reporting, and use these skills to plan, draft, edit and critique spoken and written communication for personal, professional and academic purposes. Students will develop knowledge of the importance of referencing systems, and will use the Harvard referencing system to cite material in their assignments.
