This course focuses on different perspectives on technical and professional communication, especially
within IT organisations: organisational structure and culture and its effect on communication;
negotiation and conflict; meetings and intercultural communication.
Different perspectives on technical and professional communication, especially within IT organisations: organisational structure and culture and its effect on communication; negotiation and conflict; meetings; intercultural communication. Various professional, technical and tertiary communication media such as user manuals; oral presentations; graphics and web pages; technical documentation including instructions, procedures and API; academic literature. Communicating with data: presentation of data in Excel; quantitative reporting. Planning, drafting, editing and critiquing spoken and written communication for personal, professional and academic purposes: time management; library and research skills; referencing systems; searching, selecting and citing the literature relevant to IT (for example, INSPEC); critical analysis of computer science publications; formatting documentation according to industry and disciplinary requirements; ethical issues; team problem-solving and collaborative writing.
