To introduce students to the exploration and analysis of the relationship between languages and cultures.
The students will investigate the concepts and issues relating to language and culture. They will become familiar with the ways in which language and culture play a significant role in meaning making and investigate some key areas of focus including speech acts, politeness and discourse. They will learn to identify the ways in which language and culture influence each other and shape the ways people interpret and create meaning.
